Old St. Anastasia

Preserving Our History and Fostering Positive Development in the Peacock Arts District

The restoration of the Old St. Anastasia Catholic School Building, located at 10th Street and Orange Avenue, has been successfully completed. Built in 1914 and acquired by the Fort Pierce Redevelopment Agency (FPRA) in the 2007, the building has now been restored to its original appearance, preserving its historic charm.

The exterior restoration is an important step in eliminating slum and blight while creating a welcoming and vibrant environment for the community. Innovative Masonry Restoration, LLC was selected as the contractor for this project, and the FPRA team worked closely with them to bring the building back to its former glory.

Old St. Anastasia Master Plan

The Fort Pierce Redevelopment Agency, with approvals from both the FPRA Board and the City Commission, has initiated the development of a comprehensive master plan for the historic Old St. Anastasia building and surrounding parcels.

Project Overview

A Specific Authorization has been executed with consultant Cotleur & Hearing to lead this effort. The master plan will guide the future of the site through:

  • Community engagement to ensure the plan reflects neighborhood priorities

  • Feasibility analysis to assess development opportunities and challenges

  • Historic preservation planning to protect and honor the landmark building

  • Conceptual development for three key parcels within the project area

Progress to Date

The planning process is already underway:

  • REG Architects has prepared a working draft of the As-Built Plans, currently in circulation for review.

  • A working base map has been developed.

  • Roll plots are being prepared to launch the concept design and master planning phase.

Community Workshop

On Wednesday, February 18, the Fort Pierce Redevelopment Agency (FPRA) hosted a public workshop at the River Walk Center to discuss the Old St. Anastasia Redevelopment Project. Approximately 35 residents, stakeholders, and community members attended.

Participants reviewed the proposed architectural approach for the historic Old St. Anastasia building, including a compatible addition designed to bring the building into compliance with current building codes. The proposed improvements would accommodate an elevator and provide accessible restrooms on each floor, ensuring long-term functionality while preserving the building’s historic character.

In addition, three hand-drawn master plan concepts for the surrounding open space were presented. The concepts ranged in intensity from a more passive park setting to increased activation featuring an amphitheater, playground, art walks, event spaces, and potential retail activation along Orange Avenue.

Attendees actively engaged through sticker voting, comment cards, and open discussion. The feedback received was thoughtful and meaningful and will inform refinement of the preferred direction as the project advances.
